In the turbulent summer of 1974, Kate Mularkey has accepted her place at the bottom of the eighth-grade social food chain. Then, to her amazement, the “coolest girl in the world” moves in across the street and wants to be her friend. Tully Hart seems to have it all – beauty, brains, ambition. On the surface they are as opposite as two people can be: Kate, doomed to be forever uncool, with a loving family who mortifies her at every turn. Tully, steeped in glamour and mystery, but with a secret that is destroying her. They make a pact to be best friends forever; by summer’s end they’ve become TullyandKate. Inseparable.

So begins Kristin Hannah’s magnificent new novel. Spanning more than three decades and playing out across the ever-changing face of the Pacific Northwest,ย Firefly Lane is the poignant, powerful story of two women and the friendship that become the bulkhead of their lives.

For thirty years, Tully and Kate buoy each other through life, weathering the storms of friendship-jealousy, anger, hurt, resentment. They think they’ve survived it all until a single act of betrayal tears them apart… and puts their courage and friendship to the ultimate test.

Where to start with this one. Completely and utterly, an amazing work of art. I love when books captivate you from the very first chapter. There was never a slow part in this book because it was continuously moving and getting better. A definite page turner!

Like all her books that I’ve read so far, this was written in two points of view;
Kate: A girl who thinks she’s ordinary. She believes in love and wants to find a happy ending.
Tully: A girl who feels alone in life. That is until she meets Kate. She finds a family with this friendship.

I really do not want to go into talking about this book, just for the sheer reason that I want it to hit you as hard as it hit me. It took me a couple days to recover from reading it. It’s been a week and I’m still recovering.ย It makes you realize what is and isn’t important in your own personal life. It made me realize how much I love my best friend and also how much I want to have a family some day.

Go check out this book. You won’t be disappointed.

    I have not read this particular novel, but have read and enjoyed one by this author before. Thank you for posting – it reminded me that I should keep an eye out for Kristin Hannah’s other works!
